988 Crisis & Suicide Hotline
On July 16, 2022, the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (formerly known as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline) became live. Although 988 has become active, the previous 1-800-273-TALK (8255) number will continue to function indefinitely.
According to Vibrant Emotional Health- the nonprofit administrator of the Lifeline who have been supporting the implementation of 988- report that in 2020, the Lifeline received nearly 2.4 million calls. With the more accessible and easy to remember number of 988, the Lifeline hopes to reach many more people in emotional crisis and more access to mental health crisis services.

When calling 988, if you are in need of the Veterans crisis line, you can be redirected from here.
When you’ve got a police, fire or rescue emergency, you call 911.
